do you use a advisor/broker or do you find your own mortgage deal????

Right i do my own research and get my own mortgages, some people use brokers/advisors.

Now whenever i have been to a broker / adviser, they have always told me they could not get anywhere near the deal i had sourced myself.

Last year i got 2 mortgages a five year fixed at 4.15 with a 15% deposit and i got a 3 year deal at 4.69% with a 25% deposit.

what kind of deals did you get or have got?

And how did you get them did you do it yourself or use a adviser/broker?

I have always done my own donkey work, for everything financially, that way I only have myself to blame IF it goes wrong, I haven't been wrong yet with any of my decisions, plus the usual thing is that it can become cheaper if you cut out the middle man. the only exemption was our first mortgage this was through a broker, but since then I do it all myself.

Our previous mortgage (Current Account & Savings) was with The Woolwich and it was a BofE base rate tracker +0.75% this was fine until Barclays got involved and forced their Barclays brand onto our current account and savings whether we liked it or not, well I would not bank with Barclays if they were the last bank left on the planet for personal reasons, I had news for them and I uprooted my Mortgage, Savings and Current Account and went over to www.if.com where I got a better long term mortgage tracker deal as detailed below.
ORIGINAL MORTGAGE AMOUNT £106,454.00 (Started Sept 2007)
    NOV 2021 O/S AMOUNT £1,694.41 OUR DEBT REDUCED BY £104,759.59 by std regular, over-payments & off-setting.
BofE +0.19% Tracker Repayment Offset Mortgage Discounted Sept 07-10 then increased to BofE +0.62% until 2027

well done for what? asking a question?

some people why do they bother, dont tell me you are dan the ex broker?

The question was just to see what other people do, has you are a ex broker would you still go to a advisor or would you get your own, or is that question too hard?

...and some people are particularly touchy! You asked your question with a somewhat self-satisfied dig at the fact brokers can't get deals as good as you can source yourself. I don't really think you're interested in whether people use brokers or not, but whether you've been extremely clever in getting yourself such fantastic deals!

Of course some people use brokers if they don't have the time to search the market themselves, while others prefer to be in control of sourcing their own. It's a horses for courses thing I would think...

(and no I'm not a broker and yes I do source my own deals, but I still think you're after a big old pat on the back for yourself :))

Nope, well done for finding your own deal!

I was a broker and guess what, I will never go back and have found life outside of financial services to be very good! In fact I look back and cannot believe how many beemer driving fat tied idiots are out there!

However you did sound a little smug, but well done, many people cannot do that.

Im not asking for priase or a well done, there was better deal than mine at the time i just missed out on a 3.99 deal, i would just like to do the comparison between deals brokers get and what you canget yourself.

For instance say some one has just got a mortgager though a advisior i would like to know what ltv and what deal they have got, it might show us whehter they are any good , but if no one wats to give that indformation thats up to them.

I for one if i went to a advisor and they gave me a deal of nearly 6 % with 25 % deposit i would come on here and post to see if i could get a better deal.

    but thats just me

I thought I would share my own experience. The first house I bought, I used a broker - looking back i should have searched for my own mortgage, but being your and naive....

Second time round, i DIY a mortgage and noebody could beat it.

However I am currently in the process of buying a house, but this time round its not as straight forward. This current home has all sorts of local occupancy regulations and living in a Welsh council area were all the policical documents are written in Welsh, we have found our broker to be invaluable as he has been translator and go between with the different mortgage suppliers and the local council.

Personally, if you know the house you want to buy is "normal" i would definately go DIY again, but we were fully aware of the restrictions that my inprogress purchace and thought that i would take advantage of a broker.

    Hope this helps!

Ive never claimed to know it all, thats where you come in, i would like to think theyres a village out there for you, but with you being such a big idiot, i dont think theres a village big enough.

As i told you before a union rep is elected and voted in by its members, i do not get paid for doing it, maybe one day your fellow workers may elect you for a role to support them but i very much doubt it.

Oh yes VIGILANTE have you found anyone yet who has lost their house due to not getting consent to let? Or are you still scratching your head lol.
