Pitlochry Hydro Hotel

I'm thinking of booking a short break in Pitlochry for myself and two teenage children. Shearings Self Drive holidays have a break to Pitlochry Hydro Hotel which seems quite a good deal.

If anyone has stayed there, can they let me know what it's like and if they would recommend it.

Thank you

Its lovely. I would say though that my teen daughter hates pitlochry because she says its mainly tartan shops (not too accurate, but that is a teenagers perception!). If your teenagers are into outdoor activities there is loads to do. I love the pony trekking at Blair castle.

Although not strictly accurate Prudent's daughter isn't far off. Pitlochry itself is mainly touristy type shops but there is a lot round and about to do.

    Hi Tallula.

I've stayed at the Hydro - about three years ago - and it was nice enough but really tired looking - the stair carpet was worn and my bathroom wasn't too clean when I went. As a single person I also objected to being put at a tiny table right next to the kitchens - but that's hardly unusual in hotels!
Having said that it does have a decent sized pool which was nice. It's a ten minute walk from the main street and the views are great.

It's also worth checking out the Pitlochry Festival Theatre - they have a good programme of plays - although it's repertory so the shows rotate and you'd need to check what's on each weekend. If you're interested the link is - http://www.pitlochry.org.uk/
