Charity competitions - your views please

Over the years (well, about 5), I've taken part in several charity competitions (incl raffles) by post.
Have always returned entries within 10-20 days of receipt of the invite, & on several occasions enclosed donations with the entries (a few I support on a monthly Direct Debit/STO basis as well).
Actually, I'd say the majority were returned within the 7/14-day period to be eligible to claim a smaller quick-draw prize, or increase the overall winnings.
I've never won a thing. Has anyone won anything at all from these competitions? If one donates, does he/she stand a 'better' chance of winning? I'd like to hear your experiences & views. G
P.S. I realise that giving (/donating) is more important than winning prizes etc, but are these competitions for real?

I don't know. I do enter charity comps, but never sent off a donation with it. If I ever won a prize from a charity comp, I would more than likely send a donation relative to the price of the prize.0
