    If you receive court action, e.g. CCJs. The DMP companies generally;

    Free DMPs - They ask you to fill in paperwork and admit the debt
    Pay DMPs - (Often) Say send us the paperwork we will deal with it and stop the CCJ, they actually do nothing and the creditor wins by default due to no defence placed landing you with a CCJ, owed in full. Bailiffs and further charges are likely.

    Atleast if you defend against a CCJ, showing you are on a DMP, a judge will only award a CCJ to be paid at what you can afford, and potentially not award a CCJ based on the fact your already on a DMP.

    That is because you are becoming aware of your debt position, once you have understood it and started to take control you should get some relief rather than the head in sand worry.

    Imagine you see a truck driving towards you a mile off, you put your head in the sand, see no evil feel no evil. Knowing that is not the case, you worry, you take your head out and see the truck is now only 20 meters away, you panic. There is still time to take control and take positive actions.

    Hello :hello:

    It is scarey at the beginning ... but it really does get a whole load easier :)

    When I realised how bad things were, I felt really quite sick, frightened, embarrassed, and was in a right old panic.

    Once I decided to go with my DMP (with the CCCS), I started to feel in control. Yes, I made a few mistakes at the beginning (e.g. talking to creditors when they called, being rather gullible) but thanks to the CCCS and the great advice on here, I quickly learnt to take full control of my situation. For example, I refused to go through security questions when creditors called, telling them to write instead. I also started reading letters properly rather than scanning and panicking - the 'threatening' letters actually contain words such as 'may' and 'can' rather than 'will' and 'shall'.

    I also created my own standard letter, explaining my situation and that I now had a DMP with the CCCS. In response to every letter received from a creditor, I sent this letter in return (with a few tweaks, as necessary) - and would e-mail the CCCS to advise them of what I'd done and if necessary get them to contact the creditor too.

    Doing all this made me feel great too! :j

    The first few months are grim while it all settles down. Some accept instantly, others a bit longer. I now hardly hear a thing from creditors.

    I did find creditors looked favourably on me going with the CCCS - and many said they always recommend them to those having problems, and advised against going with those companies that charge a fee (probably because it means they know they get less money!!).

    Good luck and best wishes. It really DOES get better!
