Gifts For Family Living Abroad?

I'm sorry if I'm not in the right place as I've never posted a new thread before, feel free to move me somewhere else!
I wondered if anyone had some ideas for family living abroad? I have a son and little grandson in New Zealand and would like them to get gifts instead of money:think: I'd thought of a subscription to a childrens magazine that they could do together (and look forward to receiving each month, hopefully!) but can't seem to find anything or could I maybe pay for vouchers for a store in NZ where they could go and choose something? We've had problems with parcels not arriving and heavy charges when I've sent money which is counter-productive (They're skint!) So any ideas would be gratefully received. Thanks a lot:)

  • what about small books for your grandson, like Mr men books, they are slim and small? or maybe a craft set (depending on age) like different papers, felt, sequins, paint brushes, etc, all pretty light and not too big either.
for your son maybe a cd of his favourite music from when he was at home, or in his teens. a homemade one, so if i does go missing its not a total waste on money. or small album with recent or very old family pics in it, they would all be copies.
Hope this is slightly helpful, and if nothing else gets your brain going on more ideas!

When my other half was working in Australia i set up an australian ebay account, so i could buy things in AU dollars using paypal, and they would be sent to him from within the country.

i bought things like aftershave, gadgets, music, DVDs etc and usually if you ask the seller first they will be happy to include a note saying who it is from. Or you can just say that something is on the way and they will work out that it is from you!

I did the same when i moved over to australia for a while, by using ebay uk to send my gran flowers, teddies etc when she was in hospital, some sellers even wrapped them and sent a card from me for free when i asked them to pop in a note saying who it was from.

Or buy from a website like amazon where you can include a message.

not sure if they are child friendly but maybe some books or DVd's might be.
It only takes a second to say 'Thanks, you just saved me a few quid!'

Thanks for the good ideas it certainly has got me thinking! Any more would be really welcome. Joining another Ebay now why didn't I think of that? I looked for ages for a local florist who would deliver in NZ (without charging a fortune!)
We have learnt a couple of tricks, like picking up a card for a local florist when in Holland. (More family!) We ring them direct now and they deliver a lot cheaper than interflora! Books are very expensive in NZ because they don't have publishing houses there. I'd recommend Book Depositry who deliver free worldwide at good prices too!:T
