Washing Machine

Our washing machine has finally given up the ghost.

Any bargains/recommendations please?

We are a largish family with piles of washing so ideally we need a heavy duty machine with a large drum.

Thanks in advance.

I can honestly recommend Bosch. I've bought two of their dishwashers (one for a holiday home) and a washing machine, in the past decade. None of them have ever gone wrong. Not once.

I'd second the Bosch and say beware of Hotpoints lower prices- they are so noisy its scary to small children and animals! Bosch are much quieter and last time I looked got better ratings then other brands for washing machines in the Which guide. If your unsure, try your local library who should have all the Which back issues.

I bought a Siemens 2 weeks ago from john lewis, for appliances I dont think you can beat them for their after sales and servive and they always price match. with 5 yr parts and labour for £399 its a really good machine with 9kg drum and its quiet. my friend bought a huge machine from costco recently has a very big drum sorry dont know the make but they could be worth a look.
  • Forget Hotpoint, owned by Indesit and I wouldn't have them in my house. John Lewis own brand is AEG. 3 year warranty, £299 is the cheapest one. The winner for me with a 5 year warranty, has to be the Siemens from John Lewis.

Do Siemens do a 9kg washing machine?

Can't find it on the John Lewis webiste or on the Siemens Home website.

I bought a Seimens from the comet auction site. I think it has a scratch on the side and it cost about £400 instead of £600. very pleased

Check out the Which? product and brand reliability surveys. if you don't have a sub. (which I don't) check it out at your local public library. As a low user, I bought an Indesit (bottom of the range, noisy but recommended low end m/w by Which?) from John Lewis (free delivery, xtra year guarantee and best price) last year. Most recommend Bosch, Miele and JL's own range. Check delivery, take away and warrantee offers.
