Help/Advice on taking a name off a morgage, please

My boyfriend is wanting to take his name off a morgage he had with his ex for 2 and a half years, he has been split with her for a year and a half now and wants to buy his own place but says he will have to pay £1000 to take his name off, he hasn't paid anything since they split, he didn't take anything but his clothes when he moved out and doesn't want anything off the house.
We were wanting some advice, is there a right way to go about it, where he would not have to pay, what is the best way to do it?????? Thanx

Was your boyfriend's income taken into account when the mortgage was taken out? Can his ex qualify for the mortgage in her own right?

    Has that changed(affordability)?

If not I think it will be a problem unless they sell or she gets someone else to take it on with her.

BTW: untill the financial link with the Ex is broken think carefully before you have one with him.

Vigilant22, he said that it was part of the contract that he would have to wait 4 year before he could take his name off the morgage or pay £1000 to do so before the 4 years is up
