You can sell your stuff, like a garage sale or something, but you cant turn your front room into a butchers shop!0 -
there is also sometimes a clause in your property deeds of tenancy preventing you from running a business from home tooMF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000

Ask your local council.
There are covenants saying no business use here, but they are ok with people doing clerical business work from home, tradesmen based at home - that kind of thing where it's all in your house and doesn't affect anyone else.
They won't allow a shop as it will cause a nusiance to neighbours with customers parking, frequent deliveries - that kind of thing. Here I go again on my own....0 -

Yes you can. You can't just go off and do it, you have to get permission from the council etc. but you can do it. Admittedly, it would be harder to get permission for a butchers shop than a wool shop, but it can be done.
Sadly these days it happens the other way around far more often, people turning retail outlets into dwellings.
When I was young, in the early 60's I used to spend any money I had in the 4 "shops" in the village that were actually people's living rooms.0 -

That depends on where you live. I live in the retail centre of my town and many of the shops have been bought and turned into homes. Now if you have one and want to turn it back into a shop the council do everything they can to help you.0 -

I know - that's why I said ask the council! They won't allow it here as it's a quiet cul-de-sac in a semi-rural village.Here I go again on my own....0
