I had decided to make a balti today and got all the ingreds organized except for the green chillies and a green pepper....... BUT then the shop had none either!
Now can I substitute red for green as I have both red chillies and peppers in, or will this just be horrid? Or far to hot ?
thoughts please. Cheers

You go ahead and substitute, red peppers have a sweeter taste than green, and I prefer the taste of them (similarly with yellow and orange, they are sweeter tasting too). Now as for the red chilli, it depends on what kind of chilli you have - some are hotter than others. Still go ahead and substitute just use a wee drop, have a wee tasting session, then you can always add more if not hot enough for you later on. If too hot - serve with raita - plain yoghourt with some finely diced or shredded cucumber is one recipe.0
