Cover to keep freezer cold?

Hi, not sure if this is the right board for this question but here goes, I have a chest freezer that can only be kept in my conservatory which is fine when the weather is cold but not so good as it gets warmer, I am sure I have seen freezer covers somewhere that keep the freezer cold, a bit like a thermal cover, despite searching I can't find anything like this and thought I would ask on here for any ideas or advice, I feel like I'm missing something really obvious so all suggestions welcome:)

Hi Glowgirl:hello:

I actually have no idea ! :o

I will leave this on OS for a while to see if you get any responses, then I'll move it to I wanna

Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

thanks

Fridges and freezers are more efficient when they are somewhere warm, as the first have to produce heat to be able to get the unit cold so id leave it as it is maybe just check the seals are in good condition so you keep the cold in.

Thanks zippychick:) I've already posted on the I wanna board, just going to check my replies now, please remove if you feel necessary, wasn't sure what to do really so took a chance for some good advice on here;)

Thanks Stephy13, it really is a bit too hot and I can feel the food I have in my freezer is not as frozen as it should be but actually you might have a point about the seals, it is rather old, I shall have a good look tomorrow.:)

It will need shading from direct sunlight in the warmer months.
My dad used to keep one in his conservatory a few years ago and he had the same problem as you, until he moved it into the garage, where it work fine again.
Direct sunlight will warm the casing up and which make it work harder, many older models won't be able to cope.
If shadings difficult then you could try those car windscreen protectors, I got one from £land last year, so would only be a few pounds to cover the whole freezer.

Thats just not true - fridges work by removing heat from the air around them - if that air is hotter they have to work harder to get as cold. Heat is produced as result of this process and needs to be got rid of - which is why fridges need good ventilation around them to work well - one reason I wouldn't want to cover one up.
