Do I HAVE to have a bag in my henry hoover?

Hello,

I've been given an old henry from my BF's Mam, she only had one bag.

The bags are fairly cheap on ebay but it seems so wasteful, i looked and found these reusable washable bags.
so i was thinking i could invest in one of these but then thought I could make one myself? with some old fabric, they look really basic. I dunno if this might be too silly.

BF's mother said the henry can suck up spills if you take the bag out, so i thought why have the bag at all? its got a filter in there.

Any thoughts or tips on using less bags welcomed!

thanks

I don't use a bag in mine.. it does mean the filter needs washing every so often

and no you cannot suck up spills with it.. if you get water in the motor which you easily could it will break it!

I thought I was the only one. I forgot to put a bag in once and went to empty it and it was no problem, so I stopped using a bag altogether. We've had our Henry for 7 years and it hasn't affected it.

I had a vax that the bags used to tear very easy and in the end didnt replace them - it survived quite a few years (until ex decided to hoover up plaster!!)

I am looking to buy one, and afaik, you dont have to have bags, just wash it out now and then and clean filter.

Erm... I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you really should have a bag in there for best performance. Part of the reason for having a bag i to add an extra level of filtration between you sucking things up, and Henry spitting things out. Without the bag, you're just throwing extra gak at the filter which will need cleaning and replacing more often. False economy really.

As Pigpen ha already mentioned - vac-ing up liquids is a bad idea. If any gets near the motor you're shafted. End of.

Trust me, I design vacuum cleaners! :cool2:

I've just ordered a Henry Xtra and mentioned it at work. A colleague who used to work for Currys said they sold loads to builders as they are the only vacs that will pick up absolutely everything - brick dust, nails, gravel, chunks of plaster. He said they very rarely had any returned. He also said you can use them with or without a bag, but they recommend using a bag as the filter lasts longer.

Mine is coming with a supply of paper bags so the first of those will be used to cut a pattern in heavy cotton and make my own.

BTW, does anyone know anything about this place? They were the cheapest by a mile but I've had an email to say my Henry is on back order, no indication of when to expect it. My old one is still usable so I don't mind waiting, but if anyone knows bad things about them please post so I can cancel my order!
Oh dear, here we go again.

You can reuse the old bags again, just cut one end open, empty and peg together or tape up.

  • I bought a washable bag for my Henry, with a zip for easy emptying, as my dog mould PRODIGIOUSLY, and contents of Henry are very dog-smelly. I`d say it`s a good buy, really.
