Debt Agency Chasing but....

Hi all

I’ve lived in my flat now for 4 years and every so often I get a debt agency chasing a debt from a previous owner/tenant, I fed up of ringing them on an 0870 number to tell them I am not that person,

Now I arrived back from a week away and have found another letter from another different company stating that if it is not paid by 6th April (Tuesday) they will send the bailiffs round, obviously I know that as I’m not the person they can do sod all,

So what should I do, ring this company and tell them this or ignore them! when I rang the last company they were very rude and didn’t believe I was not the person, is there someone I can report this to so it will stop??

Thanks

Any letters you receive addressed to the previous occupant I would just put back in the post unopened with 'not at this address' on the envelope. No way would I be incurring the cost of ringing 0870 numbers.

If they turn up it might be handy to have proof of who you are and your tenancy agreement to wave at the baliffs.

But no I don't think there is anything you can do to remove the link between the previous tenant and your address, other than wait for them to die down.
Are you on the electoral roll at that address? presumably you are certain that the previous tenant is not showing as living at that address on the electoral roll?

I’m on the electoral roll at my address as is my wife, no one else is registered at our address, I always thought bailiffs could only come to an address if instructed to by the council?

actually bailiffs can only seize assets if they have court approved warrent, however door step collectors sometimes call themselves bailiffs to frighten people, however they are only doorstep collectors and have no rights

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

You could invest in the cost of a stamp or email (use a temporary hotmail address). Advise them in writing that the person named does not live at that address and none of the goods in your property are owned by them. Any attempt to enter your property, intimidate you or your family or seize your property will be met with the full force of law, and you will press charges for breaking and entering, intimidatory behaviour, theft and conspiracy to obtain money by deception.

Ask for a written confirmation that your name has been disassociated with the debt, and that no further actions will be attempted.

I'm guessing they will leave you alone. However, if they are stupid enough to send a doorstep collector, ask him to wait outside while you sort out your paperwork. Then have a bath, do the ironing, whatever takes your fancy for as long as it takes to wind them up, then give them a copy of the letter and ask if they want to wait for the police.

    Good luck x
