Selecting a solicitor for tribunal

My wife has raised a grievance for bullying against her employer, which has gone through the appeal process and been rejected.
We now want to take this to a tribunal.
I don't have legal cover on insurance, so that is not an option, so am left with either a regular solicitor who are ofering a £50 up front consultation (and who knows what after that!), or several on-line solicitors who want £250 - £300 for all the up-front work, and will then take the tribunal on a no-win-no-fee.
The "up-front" costs seem to be the most cost effective, but I have no way of knowing if any of these are reputable.
What is the best way of finding a solicitor, and having confidence in their ability/integrity?

have you checked your house insurance, there is sometimes cover via this, but I think they dictate to you which solicitors to use on most occasionsAlways ask ACAS0

It can be very expensive to use solicitors. Luckily mine were lovely and told me which bits I could easily do myself to save me lots of money.
I thought most offered a free consultation?0 -
Firstly, does your wife have good evidence that she was bullied? Witnesses? Unless you have really solid evidence, then you could be throwing good money at nothing.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Me and my colleagues didn't have a solicitor when we went to tribunal, we used the Citizens Advice Bureau who took our case on and represented us.
This was quite a long time ago though so I don't know if they still do it but it's worth a try.
It cost us nothing and we won.

I agree with pinkshoes. Are there witness statements? Will people stand up and speak for her? And, what does she hope to get out of the ET?
I'd get HR bods on here to offer an opinion first.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -

You will probably want a solicitor who specialises in commercial law and specifically employment law. Assuming you are in a medium sized town there might only be 1 or 2 firms that regularly deal with this...ask around especially accountants, bank managers, business owners...the same names will probably soon keep coming up.0 -
I suspect not, but is your wife a member of a union? They can offer legal assistance."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
