Unpaid direct debit Halifax Bank of Scotland

Hi, just like to share this latest little gem from Halifax, Bank of Scotland.
These ***** have refused a direct debit on my account not on the grounds that there were insufficent funds - there was more than enough in there - but because there was a payment pending, but which hadn't been called for, of £11.95 . Words fail me. According to the woman on the phone at HBOS the system does not check to see if there are sufficent funds, taking the pending payment into account it just refuses the DD and charges £15 for a refused DD.
Unbelievable! I am hopping mad, when I asked who I could complain to she just gave me the address of the complaints department.
IS IT ME?!

All pending payments are deducted from available funds, so if you had no more money for the DD after the pending payment had been pending then it will fail a DD, you need to have an available balnce of the amount of your DD or more for it to go through.0

Agreed. If you have £200 in an account, but have 3 pending payments of £60. It leaves £20 as an available balance. A DD for £21 would be refused unless there was an authorised overdraft (although this would be part of the available balance limit anyway)
Pending payments, ring fence money.
Be calm, and kindly ask the bank if they money can be refunded as you are not aware of pending payments holding funds.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
PS Most banks also say that the cleared funds have to be available the working day before!:mad:DarkConvict wrote: »Agreed. If you have £200 in an account, but have 3 pending payments of £60.
