Hmm, I know I'm a cynic, but I think that a big reason may have been panic in the industry about not having a nice naieve crop of new debtors every year.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Not "the beginning of the end of the UK's debt illiteracy" after all. The big reason Ames is simply because there isn't enough time to sort of the details before parliament is dissolved. If people want to see it back on the agenda after the general election then they need to VOTE LABOUR.

I quite agree that this should have been looked at carefully. With the election looming they should have either agreed properly or postponed it! Is it really alright for them to use something as important as this to try to gain the upper hand in an election! If they spent more time trying to agree instead of being paid to argue then the country wouldn't be in so much hassle!

Not great considering the money about to be spent by all parties on the election - makes me feel they should sort this out as compensation for spending money on coaches, planes, posters, rubbish to put through the door, etc.
  • Which party is advocating compulsory financial education? They will get my vote.

Regardless of which party comes in the next government, i want this in the schools by September. It is crucial to the future stability of your economy.
The credit lending gave a boom, but also the eventual bust. We are all part of the economy, we can't just reply on government decisions we all have to do our part.

I WISH I had been taught about finance and money management at school. It would have been so useful. I'm 21 and I'm very on the ball with looking after/saving money but so may of my friends don't have a clue. Most of them don't have an ISA or even a penny to their name. Please will the Government take some not of the recent financial crisis and get money pushed up the education agenda!

What is 'gutting' is the idea that idiots who require explicit education about finances are allowed to enter tertiary education in the first place. It is ridiculous to propose that school time is wasted on nonsense like this.

In today's 'Broken Britain' with so many people who 3rd and 4th generation living on benefits, spending money on rubbish. Perhaps education at a young age on money - finances etc is a brilliant idea.
My grandparents and parents have all always worked hard and never had to claim. My husband had major surgury 4 years ago and was off work for a year. We had no help and I had no idea where to go, and got sucked the wrong way and think this is so easily done.
I think this is a very sad day and wonder what exactly we are teaching our children. Yes as parents we do a a responsibilty but I can only do so much I don't understand it all. Get children into good habits while at school and they should be with them for life!
