Advice in regards to holiday (This Is Travel)

My partner and I booked a holiday with the above company via the Teletext Holidays website back in September, put our deposits down and were due to pay the balance off at the beginning of March. However, at the start of the year she had some problems at home with family which led to us moving into our own place and meant we didn't have the cash to do so (we're both full time students).

Rather stupidly we assumed if we didn't pay we'd just lose our deposit and we've now found out because we're cancelling less than 13 weeks before the departure date we still have to pay the full amount. Whilst this is admittedly our own fault for not reading the terms and conditions properly, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience in paying off these types of debts?

My partner has called the company and spoken to one of the employees a couple of times and tried to set up some sort of payment scheme with them which led to them telling her they don't offer repayments like that. After a while on the phone she was informed a payment of £150 was needed today (later in the phone call became by the 30th April) and then they can set up installments.

Is this the way it usually works as it seems like every time she speaks to them there is a different answer.

Yeah, there was a similar story on here with regards to booking a weekend away cottage, poster assumed to let it run only a deposit is lost. As you found out this is not the case, there is a clause attached. This is because a deposit only holds your position it doesn't cover eve the operational costs, so if everyone decided not to go and they couldn't find new holiday makers they lose money. (Thats the reason anyway)

Best way is to forget phoning, write in a letter with offer of repayment, or alternativly and full and final settlement figure. - http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/debt_advice.php#6

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies
