Ipod touch

Hi there, iv saved 2600 and i am moving in to a flat with my girlfriend at the end of may, which incurs its costs e.g. deposit and first rent and buying all the essentials we need for the flat. This month i got to save an extra 200 from work due to a bonus, so instead of having 2400 this month, i have 2600. Once we move in money will be tighter and savings will stop for a little.
I want an ipod tough which i can get for 150, should i buy this? or just wait? its one of those things you want and dont need, but what would you do?
ill be saving another 200 at the end of this month, so if i spent the 150 id have 2650 at the end of my savings.
Lol i just cant decide!

there will be a lot of unexpected bills / things that you may need associated with the move
i would hang on for 2-3 months just till you get settled0 -

I want one too so I feel for you.
Is it something you would use a lot? Will it be a novelty gadget and in 2 months time it will be left on the shelf?
Will your girlfriend be understanding or will it cause ww3 because she thinks you're wasting money you are going to need for the flat? Is the flat empty or furnished?
Do you get personal things often or hardly ever? Will you have another bonus in the future?
(Are you my son?) Just kidding, I know you're not but you sound like him.
Answer those questions first then we'll tell you if you're allowed one or not. :rotfl:Herman - MP for all!0 -
hahaha
No my girlfriend would be understanding to, she has 600 saved also for the move, I always have an mp3 player on me, i used to have a 80gb ipod classic a couple years back but lost it, i would use it alot yes, and i think at christmas time,(becuase im paid 4 weekly and end up getting paid twice in one month before bills are due) id make a saving there for gifts and xmas celebrations and probably save a little to, and from april 2011 my loan will finish, and ill be able to start putting away 100 every month maybe more, and she will be saving to. I havnt really splashed out on myself in a while, im a very simple guy, i like books and relaxsation and walks outside, or the cinema or just spending time with my girlfriend, lets just say i have very cheap hobbies and dont need to splash out to have a good time. Iv budgeted for our life together when we get started and we can afford all the bills and still have a little pocket money left over.
I did get to save an extra 200 this month( unexpectidly) so i was already set on just having 2400 saved at this time, so it wouldnt put me in finacial troubles if i did buy it now, but its basicly to i keep the money to feel a little bit more secure, or do i just go for it and im sure id be fine? loool0 -
I'm now of the belief that you need to nurture yourself as well as your family and your home.
If the ipod cost was being taken from funds budgeted for the flat, then I'd say that was unfair and a no go, but since it's extra bonus money and you don't spend on yourself willy nilly then I don't see anything wrong in you buying it tbh.
Once you're in the flat, I daresay there will be things cropping up all the time so you may not have the freedom to spend on yourself for some time. On balance, I would buy it.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Im already prepared for the extra bills of moving in, its just that feeling of buying somthing expensive just before your gonna need money, even though im already sure my savings are sufficent enough to provide for the move, im looking at having almost 1000 left over already, the flat will be furnished, and any furnishing we need will come from my paypacket on the move, with maybe some help from the savings, i guess all the signs tell me to buy it but i cnt help feel guilty! lol but iv read ao many reveiws on it and it sounds like it would be a worth while purchase, hmm0

Well why don't you earmark the bonus money and keep it separate and wait until you're in the flat. That way, you'll have it if anything unexpected and unbudgetted for, crops up and if not you can buy it without the guilt.
My OH just got one for his birthday btw. He's a huge pita with it. Like a kid with a new toy, takes it everywhere with him. Got so many songs on it now, he'll never listen to half of them and as for the apps, how many stupid ping pong games does one person need?!Herman - MP for all!0 -
Yes that sounds like a sensible aproach, but then im left thinking oh i want i want i want right now! lol i can afford just get it now!
lol its like a no win situation, feel guilty or live without for a while lmao0 -
Could you wait a bit to see if anyone is selling one?
Myself and my OH have the 4th generation 8GB ipod nano and i must admit i rarely use mine, my OH on the other hand uses his every day, he has it plugged into a fm transmitter and listens to all his songs as he drives for a living.
He got offered his mates ipod touch 8GB for £70 because his mate had upgraded his contract mobile to an iphone.
Bargain we thought, especially cos then we can sell his ipod nano and make the ipod touch even a cheaper purchase.
I can understand what it must be like though, cos my OH had wanted and ipod touch for ages and just no way in hell we could afford to get him one. He was over the moon to get one and didn't bother him one bit that it was second hand.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
