Secured Loan query
Unfortunately I have a secured loan from a few years ago due to getting myself into serious debt and not getting good advice, the loan was with Firstplus. A couple of years ago I went to change my mortgage to the Woolwich and Firstplus refused to sign to stay as the second lender so I ended up taking my banks advice and took out a Barclays secured loan to get rid of Firstplus, this did mean the debt increased. Last year I lost my job and have been claiming on PPI but this has now stopped and I have started getting phone calls from Firstplus about arrears on my secured loan, I am reluctant to speak to them as as far as I am concerned I do not have a contract with them. I have since found out that Firstplus are part of Barclays. Does anyone know if I can do anything about this as it seems to me that I have been duped by Barclays into taking out a larger loan!!!!

Ring FP and/or Barclays and find out the situation - not sure what info you're expecting from people here given you don't have the loan with them.0

Hi Bonanza - you'll get no joy here re: second charge loans.
Andy - why lurk around around a loan forum and provide such comments to a first time poster? Make you feel big?
It does sound like you've been conned into believing you were changing lenders. You need to write to Barclays, not Firstplus (Firstplus are a subsidiary). Ask them clearly who your loan is with and for them to provide you with all paperwork relating to your business with them. This is basically a subject access request (SAR) and you need to pay £10 to them for their trouble. This will provide you with everything you need to see what exactly has happened.
There is a dedicated website for people complaining about Firstplus though if you're interested.

Hope to see you over there.0 -
Apologies Andy, I must have misunderstood the idea of the Forum, thought I might be able to get advice on this issue didn't realise this isn't the case, and thankyou Halifax71 I'll look on the site you've suggested.0

Sorry, I disagree. I don't think the query was a "debt free wanabee". It was re: a loan, so the OP posted in the loan forum.
There are far too many of the "holier than thou" brigagde lurking behind their keyboards waiting to pounce on anyone with a secured loan. To be honest it sickens me that members of this forum take great delight in putting down people who ask perfectly reasonable questions.
Why do i still come here? Well I don't very often as I and other Barclays Firstplus customers moved our discussions elsewhere, but unfortunately this is still the first port of call for many seeking help and advice, so I continue to point people in the right direction.
There's a saying in life - "If you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say it at all". Maybe we can add constructive to nice in this instance but I wish some posters would take this advice.0 -

I haven't put anyone down - I'm just suggesting the OP speaks to the company who's trying to contact them to ascertain the issue. Other than that it's guesswork from people on here which isn't help. I haven't 'pounced' on anyone, nor does it bother me if they have a secured loan or not.0
