Children

We are having about 10 children age range from 2 - 12 at our wedding, i am planning on it being quite relaxed. We are having a sit down meal, i am not worried if the children get up and run about the room a bit in the meal but need to stop them going completely histerical (lol), i am planning on having a childrens activity table in the middle of the room. Any (cheap) ideas what to put on it ?

  • Some colouring pencils and books for the younger ones, and maybe something like Jenga or Connect 4? x

lego or playmobil, pencils, crayons and paper? nothing with glue though as i know exactly where it would have ended up with my kids. maybe some kids comics, magazines etc - if your friends have kids they will prob pass some onto you rather than buy - kids dont mind if theyre not the latest issue.

Surely the parents will be there to make sure the kids don't run around like loons?

I'd go with the colouring in too, but with crayons and pencils, not felt tips.

  • I would also have said colouring books and crayons - maybe see if the hotel will give you a paper tablecloth for the kids' table so they can draw on that (because that will inevitably happen)?

Also maybe some of those mini card games like you sometimes get in Christmas crackers - Old Maid or similar? I like the Connect 4/Guess Who idea as well, you can buy travel size versions which would be good for little hands.

We're having the kids sit at the tables with their parents, but giving them a goodie bag with colouring book etc. My only concern with an activity table would be if the parents have to keep getting up and down to check on the kids or sort out fights. :)

Yeah i m slightly worried about that, but some of the kids (mine included) are only toddlers, i think it is just to unrealistic for them to sit still. hopefully the bigger children will police it so the little children don't scsap to much.

If you can get them cheap and have room - what about some of those garden games like giant Jenga and big snakes and ladders? Places like Asda should have them in now it's coming up to summer time.

Other than that - I'd suggest industrial size box of Lego or similar myself - failing that, get a portable telly and something like a Wii set up in a quiet corner somewhere? (admittedly I can see you having to remove the adults from the Lego and Wii to be honest!)

We were at my nephew's wedding on Saturday - they had put bottles of bubbles on all the tables, I was nominated chief bubble blower as my 2 great nephews kept bringing me the bottles to blow them the bubbles to play with! They are aged 5 and 3, and another 5 year old found them great fun too - might be worth a go with supervision so no one gets covered!!!

(I enjoyed playing with them too LOL!)
