Support for interns

My 22 year old daughter (who graduated last year) has recently started as an intern at a non profit making organisation in London and I was wondering whether she would be entitled to any grants or benefits - she is living at home and travelling into London by train which is costing her nearly £400 per month in rail fares. The organisation will pay her tube fares as expenses which amounts to about £100 per month. She is not paying any rent and we are providing food for her but she has no other income. Would she be entitled to either income support or job seeker's allowance? This internship is for 6 months and although we can support her to a certain extent, as an adult she needs some independence! Any advice gratefully received!

Unfortunately she isn't eligible for any benefits although she could look at getting a part time evening job to give her some financial independence.0

I still can't believe that our current government actively encourages "internships" as a positive means of getting a job. Yes we can have jobs for those that have independent means and/or rich parents! On every level it is just so wrong.0

Agreed! My experience in the U.S. is fairly similar.0
