I'm a sweaty Betty!!

Hi all,
I LOVE summertime. I love the light, the warmth, the happy feeling and the lovely bright clothes......however, I HATE the fact that I sweat badly.
Medication that I have to take is the probable cause of this problem. In the winter it's not so bad and because I wear several layers of clothing it's not always obvious. The main areas are my underarms, back and, in hot conditions, my face gets quite sweaty too. I've tried every antiperspirant known to woman without much obvious success. I DO NOT SMELL!!!!! It's just the embarrassment this causes.
In the summer I find it impossible to find clothes that don't highlight my problem, can't wear tshirts or single layers, can't wear light colours (hate wearing black all the time), can't wear anything that exposes too much sweaty skin, if I wear light trousers they can look wet due to my sweaty back so stick with black again.
When I go clothes shopping I feel so restricted as to what I can buy. I tend to buy lots of floaty loose fitting patterned garments to try and conceal my problem regarless of whether they flatter my shape.
It's vile and is really getting me down. I feel as though I don't want to leave the house (which is impossible due to working full time).
I feel so unattractive and manly I could cry. Boo hoo!
Doctor has said that it's a known side affect and I'll have to live with it.
Anyone got a similar problem or can offer any helpful advice?

Hi,
I had to reply to you I know exactly how you feel!!!
I have the same problem! It's called Hyperhydrosis (sp) I have been prescribed tablets for it before, which then caused a terrible allergic reaction so I can't take them anymore!
Best thing I have ever used is Driclor, it's deoderent that you can use on your underarms, feet, hands ect, it's fantastic really makes a massive difference. Cost about £7 a bottle last time I bought it and you apply it at night wash it off in the morning - Do not apply after shaving though - WOW it stings! But it really works, only need to use it for a few days and it protects you for weeks - makes you completely dry in those areas!
Another thing is when i used to stress about sweating it would get worse, so now I keep as calm as possible and it really helps me!
Hope I have helped you even a tiny bitxx

Have you tried a product called 'odaban'? It takes a few days to get working but you apply a tiny bit at night to whatever area you need (not sure of the science but it somehow dries up sweat glands/changes the way your body sweats).
I bought some in the lead up to my wedding several years ago and it was brilliant. I find that sure maximum protection works well for me a I do not sweat excessively but a couple of friends who have tried 'odaban' were really impressed by the results.
Its quite cheap and I just got it over the internet - don't be put off by the name, its not for smelly people although it sounds like it!0 -
I used a special extra strong anti perspirant called Anhydrol Forte, it works well for this- I think my doc prescribed it or I may have just got it in Boots, sorry can't remember which.
A friend used to get Botox injections (strange as it sounds!) specifically to stop excessive sweating.Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams0 -
I use Anhydrol Forte as well, works the same way as snuggles 22 mentioned, you can get it at boots x0

Thank you for your replies, I was beginning to think I was the only sufferer.
I've tried Driclor and Sure with some success. The thing is my main problem area is along my spine and I wonder if you can use them on a large area? I'd probably have to ask hubby's help to apply:(
I will Google the other products mentioned, thanks x0 -

I read reviews for this and apparently you can use it anywhere, faces etc so I've ordered a bottle and will give it a try. Thanks for your help. I'll let you know how I get on x0 -
I used to have this as an issue and tried all the items suggested above and many more (not botox though) and the one thing that worked for me was the sure stick. Tried others and the problem came back, it is the only one that works for me.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

I don't have a product suggestion for you but if the one you have decided on is not a spray maybe a fake tan back applicator might be of some use, they sell them in Boots or Superdrug but I can't find them online, its a long handled paddle shape piece with a removable sponge on the end, pop the product on the sponge and apply to your back, no need to trouble hubby;) hth:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0

Anhydrol Forte and Driclor are the same products
You've got to make sure the area you are applying it to is totally dry. I personally didn't get along with it but I know ppl who use it.0 -
I can't recommend any products, but have you thought about the style of clothing you wear? Halter tops leave the underarm area and much of the spine relatively uncovered so the sweat should evaporate rather than sit on the skin or leave patches on your clothes.
It depends on your job as to what you can wear, I think, but during early pregnancy I was horrifically sweaty (I left wet patches on my office chair through three layers of clothes) and took to wearing a very little top as my lowest layer and then adding layers if someone was coming into my office or I had to leave it.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76
