Interest after Death

Hi all, not sure where to put this so I'd be grateful if a mod could make sure it's in the most appropriate place.
My mother died recently and I'm in the process of sorting everything financial out.
I contacted her banks where she was in credit and the first thing that they said was that her accounts would no longer earn any interest. One of these banks was Lloyds TSB.
I just contacted her mortgage company, Cheltenham and Gloucester (part of the Lloyds Group), they are not ending the charging of interest on her mortgage despite her death. Apparently this is a new policy brought in as of 2008. (Can they change a policy like that without agreement?)
I'm a bit hacked off by this to say the least. I really don't think that this is morally right. Can I check with you folks that what I've been told is factually correct.
Thanks
