More Interview Outfit Questions

Hi all, Im on here looking for more advice about my outfit for interview tomorrow. I have put together black trousers, a dark purple blouse and a black waistcoat and I have a jacket that is a near match to the trousers so it looks like a suit. Im happy with it.

The problem now is, my black shoes are battered to death. Do I still wear them, or do you think I could wear a pair of newish purple shoes (formal, not "Look at me purple" but definitely not black) I got them for a wedding. They match the blouse perfectly and they look smarter than the battered black ones.

I have all my preparations done, my presentation is ready to go, so I am focusing on my impression now. It is a job where I would be on the road meeting students so it involves personality. But Im still struggling to fee confident with the shoe issue as I have always been told that you should wear black to interview.

I really don't think it matters. I have sometimes been on an interviewing panel and not only did I not notice the colour of people's shoes, I've never heard anyone else comment on it either. That said, I might notice tatty, beat up shoes.

You do need to feel comfortable, but as long as you feel comfortable about it, and you should, you will be fine.
  • Thanks,
Having tried the whole outfit on again I think I will go with the purple. They are more 'Me' and I'd be looking at my beat out shoes and feeling like a pauper. (which I obviously am but they dont need to know that!)

My hubby has given me the money to go and buy a new suit. But I would rather put it towards the groceries.

I've interviewed people before and I only really passed remark on one girl who turned up in flip flops which seemed a bit off.

I've always gone with the idea that smart is best - not that I've had many interviews but still! I've got a smart dress I always wear, black and simple. Works well! Good luck with the interview.. let us know how you get on :)

go with the purple, as they match nicely with your whole outfit, and as long as they are not really 'extreme' fashion shoes.

Miles better than tatty black ones.
