Slightly embarrassing

Options
I dithered about putting this on the DIY board, but I don't think I can manage a 'proper' solution.

The rubber feet/pads on my loo seat are starting to perish. Only slightly, but enough to make them stick slightly. Next week I'll be visited by a bloke with a weak bladder, and I really don't want him wondering what's causing the sticking!

Shall I just lightly soap them before he arrives? I'm not sure what cleaning products would risk further damage.

When my husband gets back, a new loo seat is a priority, I promise!

Soap or oil wouldn't do any harm - especially if you're going to change it anyway. Try it before the friend comes for his visit so you can see what works best.

    Hello wendym

As you plan to replace the loo seat soon anyway, if the soap doesn't work..........try scraping the pads with emery paper or an emery board and then painting the rubber pads with clear nail varnish. Once dry, hopefully the nail varnish will have sealed any sticky residue and you won't have any problems when your guests use the loo.

I hope my tip leaves you feeling flushed with success.:D

    Kind Regards

Thanks Nile (my thanks button isn't working).

I now wish I'd given the thread a less naff title, and am slightly reluctant to bump it, but I'm off to find clear nail varnish. I'll let you know if I find out that it can dissolve elderly rubber!
  • Clear nail varnish is a very useful substance, with many uses. I think Nile's suggestion should work.
