To be in with a chance of winning, you must give the answer to each one of these clues below:
#1: Our first musician is a famous American jazz trumpeter who went to Juilliard in 1944. Over the years he played with Dizzy Gilespie, Billy Eckstein and Marcus Miller and created recordings such as Milestones, Quiet Nights and Star People. He died in September 1991.
#2: The second Juilliard pupil was born in 1941 and his first major professional gig was with Cab Calloway. Playing the piano, he was part of Miles Davis band at the birth of the electro-fusion movement. He won a Grammy Award in 2006 for Best International Jazz Album with “Ultimate Adventure”. He has in all be nominate for 51 Grammys, winning 15.
#3: Today’s former Juilliard pupil was born Eunice Kathleen Waymon and adopted her stage name in 1954. A civil rights message is very clear in many of her songs such as her version of “Strange Fruit” and “Let It All Out”. Later in life she lived in Switzerland, the Netherlands and France where she died in 2003.
#4: This lady would find herself happily in the box marked “Funky Sensation”. Born in 1957 and having worked for the likes of Motown and MCA, she only had one major hit in the UK. She was formerly a broadway star dubbed “”the little girl with the big voice.” She dated Michael Jackson and was married to Jeffrey Daniels of Shalamar.
#5: Today’s former Juilliard pupil studied there in 1978 – now he’s the Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center. He’s been awarded nine Grammys in both genres, and was awarded the first Pulitzer Prize for Music for a jazz recording. During the years he’s worked with Sarah Vaughan, Dizzy Gillespie, Harry Edison, Clark Terry, and Sonny Rollins.#StaySafeWishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year0 -
