Reclaiming endowment nightmare

Hi there,
we are in the final process of selling our house, so we decided to contact the company that we have been paying monthly for our endowment.
They tell us we need a letter of "No further interest" from our original mortage provider, not the one we are with now.
The original mortage company no longer exist, they are telling us hard luck, find the creditors.
This has been going on now for a month and a half. Starting to get a bit peeved to say the least.
Any help would be greatful.
Endowment is with Winterthur Life Ltd
Original Mortgage company is Distinct Mortgages Ltd

The problem is that legally, Distinct Mortgages Ltd has a right to the proceeds from your policy before you do. So, Winterthur cannot release them to you. This is not them being difficult or jobsworth. It's a legal issue.
Distinct Mortgages Ltd address was City House, City Road, Chester, CH88 3AN. I believe they were a subsidiary of Skipton B/Society.
So, get them to write the letter saying that they have claim over the policy any more.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thank you but Distinct Mortgages Ltd do not exist anymore, so there is no point writting to an empty building!!!0

As Dunstonh has correctly stated Distinct was a subsiduary of Skipton Building Society.........so write to Skipton...........(I think when Dunstonh said them...he was also referring to Skiipton)0

Staff often dont know what subsidiary companies are owned by the parent. You often have to go further up.
Have you written to the address of Distinct? Most financial services companies put a redirect on mail for many years after the office has closed. Some do this for decades.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
