I guess we will find out the impact of this in the next few days when Halifax release their HP data. Increased volumes doesn't neccesarily mean increased prices.

Do you really think that the article is from 1993? The net was still in it's infancy so I'd be surprised if the independent even had a web site back then!

    I reckon it's a technical glitch.

Good call web archive only goes back for them to 1998
    http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.independent.co.uk/

And that does look like near their launch as it is asking for designers on the first page.

I think this pretty much confirms it...
However, the group's latest assessment of Britain's industrial prospects foresees a quickening recovery in 1994. Output is expected to rise by 1.6 per cent in 1993 - against the Treasury's expectation of 1.25 per cent - and accelerate to a 2.7 per cent annual expansion the following year.

If it helps there is an advanced search on Google, where you can set a date range for the information to be returned.

But what it goes to show is that if history is anything to go by we will not see real house price increases for at least 6 years as this article precedes the beginning of the boom by this amount of time.

    Does anyone remember 1993?
It's weird looking back as I remember my sister buying her flat then as the prices had dropped so were affordable to her and OH's brother also bought in 93 with one of those new build deposit paid schemes as he was sharing in a council place and was fed up with his car getting vandalised.

1993 was one of my horridest years ever too.

..but isn't that the problem. I have hung out here a couple of years and I really can't remember seeing a post about half percent interest rates.

If someone did call it, pls link, but I can't recall them being forecasted on here ever...it was all back to the 90's and sky high rates of 12% witin a year or two.

I think my highlight of 1993 was getting a graffiti daubed skateboard. Seriously. I believe I also had my first proper kiss in 1993 with a girl called Kerry from Swindon. It was round the back of the swimming baths at Pwllheli Butlins. Actually, maybe that was more of a highlight than the skateboard.
