I'm a newbie to this, See my other thread for more info. I've been reading through the forum threads, and somewhere I've seen that you can offer the CSA a discounted payment similar to that for non-priority debts.
Is this the case, and if so what level of discount?

Hi and welcome to the forums

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the CSA debt is firstly a priority debt and does not come under the statute of limitations (except in specific circumstances where the debt is accrued before 2000), so you are liable for the debt until the day you die, if the arrears are not cleared.
You can negotiate a payment plan with the CSA but as has been said this is a priority debt and so should be paid before any non priority debts. I would point out that for the parent with care these arrears are due for the money they have already put out for the child, so they are entitled to them regardless but if you have an amicable arrangement then the PWC can ask the CSA not to chase the arrears that are due, choosing to forgo the payments. If the money is due to the secretary of state as the PWC has been on benefits then you will still be liable.

My ex tried this - he paid a lump sum and when the CSA asked him to make a plan for the rest his wife was surprised. She said that she expected the payment made to be full and final settlement. The CSA reminded her that it was not a commercial loan, and as Kim says, it was for money for her husband's child which had already been paid out, owed over a long period of time. They have almost paid it all off now - they still owe just over £900 (it was originally £27k!) which I'm not chasing, but the CSA are.0
