Tutoring Spanish...?

Someone I know suggested that I should tutor people in learning Spanish. I speak it pretty much fluently and have the grades to show for it and everything but I wouldnt really know how much to charge for this sort of thing. How much would be the right sort of amount and for how long for each class?

think about it from both sides, you want to make money teaching a language, but people want to learn a language at minimal cost

i would say stick an advert up to gauge interest, look at booking a church hall maybe for a couple of hours or somewhere equally as practical, i know someone here who does lectures on a topic theyre interested in, the church hall costs him £15 for 2 hours, but he gets 15 people turning up each paying £3, meaning he gets £30, he does stump up and supply coffee/tea and biscuits etc, but people do that twice a week....

Theres loads more people wanting to learn language than you think (me being one of them) go for it!
    £4988 Lloyds TSB Mastercard
    £400 O/D Lloyds TSB
    £2650 Lloyds TSB Loan
    £5070 Black Horse Finance

Skint, but I have a plan.... an MSE Plan!!!

Tutoring for GCSE Spanish could net you £25-£30 per hour, register on first tutors and you could get some tutees in your area.
  • hi, you say you have the grades to prove it - do you have a degree in spanish? are you currently teaching or have any experience of teaching. all this will work towards how much you can charge. If you are a fully qualified spanish teacher then for GCSE you could charge £20 per hour and prob £25 for A level & degree level. However if you are going to be teaching make sure you get a relevant CRB check.
Most agencies will not register you without relevant qualifications and CRB.
If your Spanish is not 'recognised' (i.e degree) then im guessing that the amount you could charge would be lower than i have mentioned.
Good Luck with your new venture! xx
