I've thought about this too but with real wood and have considered these people. http://www.wood4stairs.com/ Would love to hear from anyone who's used them before I commit money.
  • Did anybody get this done or use the wood4stairs? I'd like to get mine done but would like to hear from others first :D

just had a look at the site, the concept is pretty good, mind you, wonder what the cost is per stair....they don't give any indication of price at all....any ideas?

  • Labour intensive, so probably pricey enough. Also, be aware............ it can be noisy, especially if you have youngsters.
  • I was thinking it would probably be quite expensive but at the same time would save on carpet i must change mine every 18 months or so. I've only got one child but have worried about if it would be slippy or not? because our laminate is quite slippy wondering if it would be dangerous on stairs ... hmmm

I decided against doing this for several reasons but the main one was noise. The stairs are the other side of my bedroom wall and the noise my boys make on them is atrocious. And yes, I think they would be slippy too - especially in socks feet!
  • Guys - I think you are misunderstanding the word laminated - it actually means "joining" - Laminated flooring means flooring that has more than one layer joined together.

I have used Wood4stairs numerous times in the past and they offer a good product. It is not as simple as putting a piece of cheap laminated flooring on the stair tread. The thickness of the material he uses is as thick as a solid wooden floor so the advice on noise would apply to any wooden stairs!

PS - I know the company well but am not connected or related , am not the owner and not an employee , I have used them before as subbies.

if you're not connected to them, perhaps you could give an indication of cost then?

To be honest its nearly a year since we used them and it was for commercial work which would have been thicker and wider treads and risers than you would get at home.

It is actually (like a lot of things) quite easy to do if you have the gear and the experience and it looks the part.

I am struggling to remember the prices he used to advertise in the local papers at , but it would be worth a phone call - it is definately cheaper than you would think and in the current climate you could get a bargain.
