Northern Rock Early Redemption Charge

I have a mortgage with Northern Rock, who have written to say that it will not be offering us another one at the end of our current deal (June 2011). However if we move to another lender before this deal ends there may be HELP available but some critiera have to be meet before a refund can be assesd, one which is taking out a new mortgage which is £3000 more that you owe NR. If I was to do this and be unsuccessful iId owe NR 4 grand and my new lender an additional 3 grand which I never needed in the first place. Has anyone been in the same position and won from this offer?
