Joint debt....advice please!!!

I am struggling with my own personal debt....i have a £15,000 CC with LLoyds TSB, with which i want to go into DMP with as i am really struggling, and keep missing payments. I have offered a token offer which they where accepting but now demanding the whole arrears, my husband and i have a joint overdraft with them, and also 2 small personal loans. I changed our salarys to go into a different bank, as i know they can offset any credits in the account against the CC. Would i have to put the overdraft into the DMP, or could i just do the CC, and it is my debt i want to sort out and not my husbands. Also is it worth sending a letter with regards to financial hardship as the charges are stupid, i got charged £20.00 for an unpaid DD for £6.00!!! The reason it all started was 18 months ago but husbands hours where reduced, i went into the bank and asked if we could temorarily increase our overdraft for £500.00 to make sure our bills where covered, which was declined, but guess what the sent my husband a CC with a limit of £3,500.00!!!! Do you think it is worth complaining to the bank about this as it does not make sense, also the two personal loans have a facility to take payment holidays every 6 months, which i tried to take last month as it was my childrens birthdays, but got declined as it did not meet the banks critera (what does that mean), surely the payment holidays are there to help people.

You can often get single charges written off if you complain promptly to your branch manager and you have a valid complaint. They generally have discretion to write off up to £50.

But your situation sounds like a bit of a mess. You have done the right thing in setting up an account with another bank. You now need to set up a dmp to deal with all the LTSB debts, and any others that you have. That includes joint debts, as joint debts are your debts.

Have you tried the CCCS debt remedy?
  • Many thanks for your advice, but if i add our joint overdraft would i have to add his personal loan (Cahoot) as well, i really dont want to get him involved, as this is my mess and not his.......

you are both jointly responsible for joint loans or OD
If you don't pay then they will chase your OH for they full amount
  • Many thanks for your replies, do you think i have a good case for complaining to the bank about declining a extension to the overdraft for £500.00 but then giving my OH a CC for £3500.00, that does not make sense!!!!

I tend to think that you're in it together!

No, I don't think you're going to get anywhere with that.
  • Many thanks, I will contact CCCS tomorrow to get the ball rolling
