Making face creams

Hi, I've opened my eyes to the !!!! that goes into commercial face creams and binned them all.

I've found a cheap and natural receipe to make a rose based moisturiser.

The ingredients are: beeswax, rose oil, sweet almond oil, Wheatgerm Oil and rose petals.

Will I be able to use this if I make it? I'm 16 weeks pregnant and a bit concerned about the almond oil part.

Almond oil is fine in pregnancy and recommended for massage as are the other oils you mention but not rosehip make sure it is just rose. Also don't make it too strong essential oils are very potent. Good luck.

Suggest you read up on natural cosmetic ingredients. A good aromatherapy book should explain about base and essential oils, and tell you which are safe in pregnancy. Most libraries will have something. There are also some good online sites - eg. www.aromantic.co.uk was recommended to me by a trained medical herbalist who teaches on making natural cosmetics.

Also Lush produce natural cosmetics with minimal preservatives so is a good alternative if you decide making them yourself is a bit too much hassle!

Have you made your face cream yet? I've just made one and I am after inspiration. Same as you, I looked what was in these commercial creams and decided enough was enough. I made a lip balm first (beeswax, olive oil, shea butter & mandarin essential oil) and it is fab.
I got a bit carried away with my face cream ingredients....almond oil, caster oil, vitamin e oil, beeswax, aloe vera, green tea & essential oils....but it is quite nice. Maybe a bit too "oily" though.

Pure rose oil is incredibly expensive. Also, I think I'd use a butter such as shea or mango rather than the beeswax as they would make a softer moisturiser.
