Upnor castle is really nice! Second that one. Not sure if they have catering, but you'd have to travel if they don't, only a couple of (nice) pubs round there, but I wouldn't have a wedding there.

the roffen is another place in roch.
museim of kent life in maidstone, fort amherst, st george hotel in chatham.
the only place i wouldn't recommend is the bridgewood manor in chatham, its not nice food, and overpriced
  • I'm happy to report that Tafetta bridal in Gravesend is really friendly and helpful - the dress I like is slightly more expensive than elsewhere but alterations are very reasonable.

  • Thanks for your tips.

Our wedding is now all booked. We got a cancellation at Cooling Castle Barn for 4th July and they have given us a large reduction as a result.

Thanks for your experiences greenmoneysaver, as a result we are marrying at 14.00 and are giving our guests menu choices. My closest friend, who is veggie, chose the veggie dish (it's definitely not pasta and I can always blame her now!!). We are getting canapes as well for between the ceremony and the wedding breakfast.

The plans are well underway which is just as well since it is 10 weeks on Sunday! I have my dress which I found in Monsoon and I love. I did have an appointment at Tafetta but cancelled when I found my dress.

For anyone else looking on this thread, Franks Hall no longer do weddings.

Will keep this thread updated if I find any tips worth passing on.

Strongly agree. The bar in the venue charges significantly more than the hotel bar down the corridor, and we noticed several cases of being charged the pint price when ordering half pint soft drinks for kids. Despite pointing it out to staff and getting the refund they kept doing it. Staff fiddle?

The register office in Maidstone is the Archbishop's Palace, a lovely old building by the river. You can hire a boat for an informal do at very reasonable prices, although it limits your guests to about 40.

How about this for an alternative venue near Gravesend?
