Hi,
I have around £600 to spend.
What i need to know is if Plasma is better then LCD.
We have a Panasonic 32" LCD tv at the moment, but with SKYHD & watching films etc. being its only 1080i the picture quality isnt all good for the main tv.
So we are looking for a nice big tv to hang on the wall, so that people from around the room can view it. We were thinking of 50inch but i can only seem to find them in plasma , would this be better say then a 42" or 47" LCD Tv.
Does anyone know of any good deals of tv's in the stores this easter weekend?
Thanks
Alex

Not to worried on engery efficient. But yer , the stores i go to always rave about plasma but ive never taken any notice. Most of the 50"s i find are plasma ,i think we be better with a 42".
Anyone know of any deals on 42" Full HD (1080p) Tv's.
ive seen a couple which are LG or toshiba. Ive never owned anything my these two , always had Sony, Samsung or Panasonic. Are LG & Toshiba as good as Sony, Samsung or Panasonic?

IIRC Sky HD is broadcast in 1080i.
There's been a lot of stuff about how LCD is more energy efficient than plasma however from what I've read, this isn't necessary always the case (isn't this typical!). LCD's are more efficient when the scene is bright, where as when most of the scene is dark (eg a film) then plasma can be better. This is because LCD's have one light source and this has to be lit all the time regardless of the image.
In terms of picture quality, I don't think there's much between them these days, there's a lot more in it with different brands/models etc.. eg if you compare a Panasonic LCD tv and a plasma there won't be too much in it.
Personally, generally speaking I prefer a plasma over LCD as I think the colours tend to be richer. The contrast ratios also tend to be bigger. How you set the TV picture up can make a difference also.0 -
Can anyone tell me what they think of this:

im no expert at all, but ive heard before a few times that plasmas only have a short life span, that they die after a few years? like i said i dont know, but have heard it more than once.does anyone know if this is correct?Everyone who thanks me when ive helped will get a 5% share when I win this weeks Euromillions......:p0

That's a load of rubbish I'm afraid. They do have a finite lifespan of around 60,000 to 100,000 hours to half-life but this is like 20 odd years with average use and is actually a longer lifespan than the old CRT tubes.0

I've only got LCD's but I think when we started looking (years ago) we were told LCD up to 40" Plasma over 40" as a guide.
My cousin (a proper techno phobe) has a 50" Pioneer Plasma on her wall, she say's it's better for gaming. My son has just bought a 46" Samsung LED, I must say it is a lovely picture. Both these were quite expensive though. I think you need to see the ones you like
on display so you can compare picture quality. and sound of course.
