Tax Relief for expenses and mileage

I know that as I only get 35p a mile from work I can claim the 5p back, but I don't get paid for all the miles I do.

For the same company, in another role (tutoring) I only get the mileage for anything over 10 miles each way. Therefore as part of the work I have to dive this, but don't get anything back. I don't think it would count as home to work, as it might be a maximum of 8 or 10 times I go to an individual place, not everyday for a couple of months.

Do you think that I can claim the full 40p for these extra miles?

I know I can claim for 40p minus any money I get back from the employer. Can't see why not. The Inland Revenue have a leaflet about claiming back mileage on your own private car.
  • I guess it's just that in some ways the travelling is included in the rate that I'm paid as a tutor, which is why my work don't pay it, but this isn't actually stated anywhere.
