Metropolitan Debt Collection

I had a debt of £2800 with HSBC. It has now been passed to the Meropolitan debt company.
I got my 1st letter from them today demanding FULL PAYMENT. It did not metion I could pay this debt off in instalments but when I called the woman said that this may be an option is I get a letter from the CCCS. She also put my account on hold for 5 weeks

- Has anyone dealt with this company before?
- Have they let you pay the debt back is instalments you can afford?

This letter is very worrying

Metropolitan is just HSBC's "in house" collection department. So your debt is actually still with HSBC.

They just use a different name in an attempt to seem scarier.

Treat them as you would HSBC.

I am a wee bit worried that they try to take me to court to get equity out of my house.
If am paying what I can afford every month (say 1%) and they agree to this are they likely to take me to court? Is this common?

Hi, we have 2 debts with Metropolitan, mine and OH's. TBH we found them fine to deal with when compared with HSBC themselves. OH had 16k with them and accepted 100.00pm which at the time was very low compared to what his original monthly payment has been. Over the years we have increased the amount we are paying back but not because of hassle from them just because as we have paid debts off we have had more to throw at them.

As far as debt collectors go(!) these have been relatively nice! xxx

I don't think it is that common for debt collectors to take people to court for this kind of debt actually. They know that invariably this route just ends up with you paying by arrangement anyway - at a rate set by the judge not them.

Debt collectors are long on threats and short on action.

Hi, i find metro are no problem, agree to virtually anything as a repayment plan as long as its something sensible i pay back 35 month on a 3k debt and not heard a peep from them for over a year now. Anyway as previous post they are really just hsbc (a branch of)

  • Hi my friends

I have problem as to student debit card/account of HSBC.

I am overseas student. Ihad student passport account of HSBC.I forgot to pay monthly fee of debit card which is 8 pounds per month for 4-5 months.
Today, I went to HSBC and I was told that my account is closed and transfered me to the debt collector Metropolitan Finance Com.
I have debt which is 43.70 pounds . I have fear about to be charged by high interest . Is it possible?
As I said above, I have just student acccount-debit card. I haven't used for 4-5 months.
I m having fear as to have any big charge because of interest.
Please Im looking for your advice

I agree! :o Ive got about 7.5 k with metropolitan and as long as you keep paying something it seems to keep them happy. Much prefer dealing with them than hsbc
