Help, ive just got a credit report!

Ive just got a credit report from equifax, and have looked through my paperwork and have two concerns and im lost at what i need to do now.

The first is i took a secured loan with welcome finance which is listed as started on the 13.9.04 which is correct.
I then sold my house in febuary 2006 and paid them off, got a letter through to say it was paid and settled and thought no more about it.

You can imagine how shocked i was to then look at the credit file today, two years and six months after it was settled it is listed as i have missed March/April/May and Junes payments in 2008 and it was settled in July.

I cant understand this and dont know what i need to do next.

My other is i have a debt listed with Cabot collection agency, for an amount that i know i havent a debt for, i cant get an agreement number for this as it doesnt show the full agreement number on equifax just the last four, how do i go about finding out what this is for? its the only negative on my credit file.

Any advise would be great.

  • Hi I just got my report the other day too, I rang up experian and got them to talk through eveyrthing with me as I wasn't sure what things meant. That made it very clear.

With the loan I'm presuming you have all the paperwork that shows this is an inaccurate record? If so then you can contact the lender and get that straightened out and they will submit rervised records to your report.

I'm not sure about the Cabot debt, they are a debt collection agency so maybe something you've defaulted on in the past? Contact them for further details and then contact CAB if you think its a mistake for some advice.

    Good luck

I reckon Welcome Finance make a habit of this kind of thing, so you can't get credit elsewhere and have to go back to them... or maybe I'm just paranoid!
