Administration charges for closing mortgage a/c

I have recently decided to swap my mortgage from The One Account to Brittania Building Society because it was cheaper. When I decided to move the admin charge for closing it was £75.00 my new mortgage statement this month states £225.00. How can they justify a £150.00 increase? Also I never received the letter that notified this increase. Where do I stand and what can I do? I know there has been a big thing about banks charging too much for what they do.

You should start off sending them (recorded deliver) a complaint in writing that you think the charge is disproportionate and you were not informed it had increased from the £75 in your original terms and conditions. Request a refund of the £150 difference. If they turn you down try writing to the managing director directly. Legally though, I don't you have much on your side.

Why have they done it? Because too many people are tarting between mortgage offers and they are trying to make it less profitable to do so.
Rule of thumb; the banks always win in the end.

  • I have rang them up and asked to speak to manager no use shouting at the person answering the phone its not their fault. Manager was no use because he said it was a Directors decision so I said I would like a Director to ring me. I have still got the argument I have not received the letter on my side. I can all but try. I have also sent an email to the FSA so i will see what they say as well. I won't let it lie.
  • I am persuing a claim at the moment against Abbey and the best advice I can give is to look at the Closing fees thread as sudjested by tonydee. Their is a wealth of information and advice available. I would sudgest that you don't bother phoning and insdead fire up the word prossesor and get some snotograms writen. This will give you a record of correspondance that the FSO will require.

    Good luck, excuse spelling
    regards
