morgage non payment costs

hi , i wonder if any one can help me,
i took out a morgage a few years ago with a well known bank, and i fell into arears ,they sent me a leter saying they were going to take me to court, then i recieved a letter from there solicitor giving me a date to attend and saying if you pay the arears before the court date no further action will be taken,
i manage to do this , but still recieved a bill for there solicitors and letters etc for over £500 on top of there interest they charged me.
this happened on 2 acations ,is these leagal?
could some one give me some advise

If they had took you to court and you had lost a repossesion hearing you would have had to pay their legal costs and lost your property and likely made homeless. You have agreed to pay the backlog and their costs at the last minute.
Perhaps the key item to address is why this keeps on occuring. The £500 in lenders legal fees do not help and may make you likely to miss the next payment. Perhaps seek an appointment with your local citizens advice bureau for advice on ways to manage your debt. The stickies at the top of the Debt-free Wannabe board contain many links relating to saving interest paid to creditors. Ignoring letters from your mortgage lender just escalates their behaviour and makes repossesion a likely event.
