B&Q Value decking - beware

An ad in a door to door brochure for B&Q offered 'Value Deck Board' for £1.98 each plank - up to £2.34 after 23 April. We bought 'value deck' - same size, same look, but it was £2.53 at the till. We questionned it and were told that - despite coming up on the receipt as 'Value Deck' it was a different product with a different bar code.
Arguments got us nowhere! So just beware and check the bar codes before you buy - the bar code you need for the reduced price is 5257751.
(PS We wanted it for raised beds, not decking.)

We saw the same brochure and plan to buy the boards to make a raised bed so thanks for the warning. We will check the price carefully.
What size bed are you going to make?0 -
Makes sense as they are 240 long to go in multiples of 60cms, so probably 120cms x 120 - double height. It really won't cost a lot, but the extra £6 we will spend would probably have bought most of the seeds we'll be planting!
(Glad someone read it - wasn't sure if this was the best place for it)0 -
Thanks for this, i want to make a large wood planter for my bamboo and i was going to buy from focus with the deal 5 for 4 on their payless decking which works out at £2.55 a board....i hadn't seen the b & q offer though so i will go there instead now :T
I wonder if you can get the extra 10% off for OAPs on a wednesday if we take the father in law?

i was also overcharged for the decking (£2.53 ish a board instead of £1.98) and only noticed whilst loading the car (50 boards) i returned with the receipt and they refunded the difference! no worries at all.0

Finished my 2 veg raised beds last night using the £1.98 boards. 2 beds 2.4 metres by 1.2 metres and 4 boards high with another board flat around the top to finish it off.
Filled with free compost from our local community recycling co-op, reckon it must've taken about 6 tonnes:eek:
Tip for anyone else doing this is to match the board lengths as they vary from 2.38 metres to 2.42 metres and it's eask to get wonky raised beds if not careful.0 -

do you have any links to this? - we are based in glasgow and going to build raised beds for bamboo and this looked like a good idea. A quick google showed the city of swansea do this - what a good idea, well done swansea, but im looking for something a little closer to home
