My 11-year-old gets violin lessons for free at school here in Scotland. Has been for the past 3 years and it will continue next year at secondary school. She was also given a brand new violin as she grew physically bigger. Is it for a young student and, if so, have you tried to contact your local council?0

As far as I am aware, nothing like that is available in England. My son takes violin lessons at school and they work out at £25 per hour. When he first started off, we hired the violin through the local music services. Can't remember how much it cost, but definitely worth it to find out whether they are going to stick with it (one of mine has gone through the violin, cello, keyboard-would have cost me a small fortune!!)0
