You have £1 lose 99p but then you find 1p..

All of a sudden you have 100% gain... :rotfl:

    Actually you don't.

To go from 0.5p to 1p is a 100% gain.

Still your maths is as precise as everything else you rant about.

    Check your maths again.

He had £1, then lost 99p so he had 1p
He then found 1p so doubled from 1p to 2p (or a 100% gain)

Should we take your error as an indicator to the preciseness of your posts?

Could you expand on that, it looks correct to me.

    Try this one sparticus.

There are 10 apples in a bowl and I take 3 away.
How many apples do I have?

The answer is three. I wold you I took three away.
The trick is to read the question

Without knowing whether you have any apples tucked away at home or at work (for example) I can't give you an answer. I also depends on who owns the apples in the bowl and what you did with the three you took away. I guess there's also some ambiguity around the question 'how many apples do I have?' because it depends on what you imply by 'have'.

    Is the answer 22?

God, even the most simplest of sentences can be mistaken in here.
Why bother posting anything at all. It's only likely to be more complicated.

Rewritten (hoping for final clarity here on MSE)

"There are 10 apples in a bowl and I take 3 away.
How many apples do I have*?

    * I don't have any apples at home, at work, tucked in my boxers to make it look like I have big bo!!ocks. I've not eaten any or thrown them away or any other situation you'd like to impose. I've simply got the three I removed from the bowl"

You are right and I am wrong on this. In my enthusiasm to !!!!!slap my stalker, 1984returnsforreal, I misread the question.

Still it will give him something to feel superior about for all of 10 seconds while he carries on trying to find out my identity. :)
