    Mortgage-free Glee!
I'm confused as to why Labour are painting this as a cut.

I understand that they plan to raise NI in the future, but currently they have not done so (I wonder why!) As such, this is simply a proposal to maintain the status quo as regards NI - calling it a cut smacks of spin to me.

Oh and for what it's worth I support the NI staying as is as I agree it hits employers hard when they need support - would be happier for VAT to rise instead TBH

How can you cut something that has not been implemented?

The Torys are not cutting NI they are just not going to raise it like Labour propose.

The non raise means that a potential 5.5bill and it will most certainly be less than that because rasing NI on public sector workers means that the treasury gives money to the public sector and then just takes back a bigger percentage becuase of the rise in NI from those budgets.

So to spell it out in simple terms Labours NI rise is a way to cut frontline services because more money is recovered by the tax hike if budgets are frozen or reduced. Yes, Nu Labour the nasty party are now using stealth methods to cut frontline services in Health, Education, etc.

Also the goverment spends in excess of 800billion at the moment. If stoping a tax rise of 5.5bill ie 0.6875% of Govt spending sends us crashing into economic depression and mass unemployment then we really are in a mess.
  • I'm still laughing at the volte face here. Cameron describes Labour's Gershon savings as a trick. Osborne describes Labour's efficiencies in the budget as bogus.

Suddenly we have double the amount of savings from Gershon. No trick, not bogus. Not to pay off the deficit. Not that the Tories are at all inconsistent....

Am I the only person who is quietly astonished that Labour are critising the Tories on economic policy when they have messed things up so badly.

Why aren't the Tories really hammering home Labour's incompetence more strongly?
e.g. increase in dole claimants, increase in disability benefits, failure to deliver on projects e.g. NHS IT project, home office failings, the list goes on.

    Both parties are in disarray.

    Vote Lib Dem!

What do you think the employers of the rest of the country's private sector employees - i.e. the owners of small business, think?
    ?

Maybe they are thinking that we have a large deficit and need to cut it.

Nice to get reasoned discussion on this group.

You point out that raising NI costs job
    s. True, but raising other taxes costs jobs. Cutting back government services cuts jobs, efficiency savings cuts jobs - that's where the savings come from. So whatever you do quickly cuts jobs.

That is Tory mantra, some good points in your post, at least they are not grovelling to the blue rinse brigade with this one.

And you think they want the deficit cut by increasing taxes in a way that hurts their business the most?

    What a stupid post.

    What a stupid post.

Maybe they think that the pain should be spread around, what is for certain they have not signed that letter (and I bet a number of them were approached).

  • Another tribal bunkerbot.

Not being against everything a party says does not automatically make one a fan of them.

I would sooner attack my scrotum with sandpaper and a saltwater dip than vote either Tory or Labour.
