I once baked my hubby some shortbread biscuits cut with a heart shaped cutter, and packed them nicely in a box, and he was really chuffed with them. And I let him eat them all himself!

Lynz, I have my own hand-made card business. Let me make him a special personalised card for you to send.

I've saved and gained money from your amazing advice so I'd love to do that for you.

That's if you want? If you do, pm me and I'll post it in the next few days. My cards are very minimalistic and cute.

Let me know hun (include his name, age, etc...)

I'm sure he'll understand given how on board both of you are with the situation.

How about making his fav meal, a reasonable bottle of wine and like the above says something thats more thought than money.

My bf birthday is sept and I have literally got no money, so I gave myself a £20 budget and I've bought two New York guide books and a mini globe, and I'm gonna write up a savings plan, all printed in a little wallet type thing, so in two years time we should have saved enough money to go away with each other on his 25th. He knows my situation so he knows he wouldnt be getting much, but at least this gives us both a little aim, something for when he finishes uni as well!

I'm gonna try and bake him something typically American too, just to give it a theme, and that will literally be it! :(

But as your hubby knows the situation I wouldnt worry too much about how much you spend, how much you get etc, thought counts a hell of a lot more :)

    Hi Lynz,

What with everything going on, it's no wonder you've forgotten!

Just a few little suggestions...do you have any photos of him around? Perhaps ones from his childhood and beyond. You could do an album/collage for him if he hasn't already got one.

How about creating a little book of love I-O-U vouchers which he has until his next birthday to 'redeem', so to speak?!

Once when I was broke, I bought my ex one of those optics lamp - he loved it and it was only £7 from the local lamp shop!

Good luck! Let us know how you get on! xx
