You owe the CT on it until the place is sold on.

But you should be able to claim an exemption for some time (6 months or so) as long as the place was empty but I am not sure if your council will allow that to be applied retrospectively if you had not claimed it before.

What stage is the repossession at? The council will chase and can continue to do so until there is a new owner and at that point the debt can go into your BR. But, if they can get a CCJ in the meantime I am not sure what happens then as the CCJ is issued after BR; I think it stands.

Hi, we are just in the process of claiming exemption Q as we didnt know about it before, we still have a couple of months due from last year after the 6 months ran out. I spoke to someone at the council and they just said to photocopy our BR order and send it off, so we just wait now

My house is still for sale with a local agent. we handed keys back to mortgage comp dec 09. council tax bill came in march asking for the last 2 months as 6 month term ended. as we handed keys back to mortgage comp & we are br i wrote to council & they have now put it off until march 11. good news. there is a clause somewhere that if yoe are br & keys are handed back to mortgage comp. send proof & all will be fine.
