well done better get onto bradford & bingley i know i had an old account with them when they were still abuilding society. How do you start to look for old accounts?

I used to work for Bradford & Bingley, so I can help you with this one!!

If you have your passbook, or an old statement, or if not some proof of i.d. and a list of previous addresses, then go into your nearest branch, explain that you have a dormant account, and they will phone Head Office, get an up-to-date balance, and then give you that money!!

Any old accounts were put into a central dormant account about 18 months ago, might be a bit longer, they wrote to all customers about 3 times to say that the account was going to be made dormant, and that if you wished it to stay open you needed to make a transaction, what this means is that your account is already closed down, but you can still get hold of your cash!!!

As for the windfall shares, you needed to have at least £100 in there on two seperate dates (I think, this was before I worked there) If you were eligible and if you didn't claim them within a certain date limit, (which was about 4 years!!) they have also gone into a dormant account, and you will get the cash value of them for the date they went into the dormant account, rather than the current value, which is a shame because in the past year or so the shares have risen really well!! The company that deals with the shares will be able to check the system, be prepared with all former addresses so they can search for you, your local B&B will have the phone number, and if they are a nice branch like the one I used to work in, will let you call from there (saving you pennies on the phone call;))

    Hope that helps.

    xx

    Fantastic news OP - well done:T :T

And thanks for the tip - I remember paying my pocket money into one of those accounts but have no idea what happened to it - I meant to try and find it years ago but forgot. Will go and start the search now!

What a great Friday this is turning out to be!:j
