claiming back my mileage allowance

can anyone help, i worked as an assessor, had fuel card, but told i can claim relief, back, can anyone give me step by step guide, as april 5th soon upon us

    If you were an employee, then you can claim tax relief of 40p pm for the first 10,000 miles and 25p pm thereafter. You either complete a form P87 or write to your tax office setting out your claim.

    if the company provided you with fuel you cant claim anything back

    if you paid your own fuel and the company reimbursed you for your business mileage then you get relief on the diff they paid you and the 40p max ie you get 25p per mile you get tax relief for the other 15p per mile.

    Remember its only 20% or 40% higher rate that you get back ie 8000 miles @15p = £1200 x 20% = £240.00

    Not true, if you have company car you can't claim but if your employer pays your fuel ONLY and you use your own car you can claim. If this is the case you should already be taxed on your fuel benefit though.

    You claim at the full 40/25p on a P87 (there is no reimbursement).
