4 day week over 5 day week is surely better (if you can afford it £s wise) with family committments I would say.

Secondly, lower paid training centre job does sound as if it might turn out better long(er) term than a call centre job you'd posisbly hate doing regardless how much they were paying you to do it.

Thirdly, would call centre job be employed directly with DVLA with associated Civil Service benefits available to you and would you be entitled to said benefits from Day 1 or only once they'd offered you a permanent position? if the former, then the DVLA job could offer you more flexibility that the private sector position as regards time off in a crisis which may also be a consideration for you.

Good luck in making your choice - but it has to be your choice (& your family's) at the end of the day as you are the ones "on the ground" as far as your circs. are concerned.

........ you could also use 5th day (i.e. your free day) at training centre job to look for something better paid after, say, 6 months if you could not see any development potential becoming open to you in that role as promised by then.
