Credit Insurance???? HELP!!

:(We are trying to remortgage at the moment, which has made me look at charges we received on a mortgage we took out previously, 2002 in actual fact, when we moved from Halifax to igroup.

Halifax got the money they needed to pay off the mortgage (expected)
Savjani Partnership £300
Midland & General £1160.00
Igroup financial ltd £ 202.28
Igroup £ 200.00
Midland & General £1889.81 (Credit Insurance)

Now, I need help in knowing what the credit insurance is, Is that PPI? And if so, because we didn't get any paperwork or information how to claim, or who it was with, have we been mis-sold something, or as the case may be, is it something I just don't understand.
I keep everything and file things away, but when someone is giving you advise, you just tend to believe whatever they say, but now I am wondering, WhY nearly £2000???? Any help would be much appreciated.
